Mantibab
Colors
Mantibabs are a predominantly vibrant species! Their coat colors are most often bright and saturated and it's unusual to see them otherwise. Depending on the type of coat a Mantibab has, they'll face harships or benefits from their peers, the general populace, and the magic that's infused in them. Let's get started with the basics!
Common Coat Area:
-
Just like it says, this area is safe to pick colors from for any common Mantibab. There are limitations to the colors in this section which you can read about below!'
Dull Coat: (odd)
-
Mantibabs usually only appear with dull coats if they've had a brush with the Miasma, or been changed through unusual, often magical, means. Common mantibabs may not use colors in this range!
Umbra Coat: (cursed)
-
When a mantibab reaches the end of their lifespan, they begin to lose their color and turn an inky black. To see a living Mantibab share the color of death is seen as a bad omen to the more traditional sorts.
Dull/Umbra "Accents"
-
Dull and Dark coats are more lenient with their colors, but as a species Mantibabs have some hue to their coats, so this section should be used sparingly!
Depending on your art program your colors might not read exactly in this way, so if you're not confident about the colors you've chosen check to see if they're darker or duller than the ones below!
⚠️ Mantibabs cannot be pure white or black outside of the deities and demigods of the universe. ⚠️
Common Coats
Mantibab coats are usually covered in bright, saturated colors that reflect the magic infused into the world they live in. A common bab has a pastel/white allowance of 40%.
Notes;
-
When designing your bab, the majority of your colors should come from the "Base Coat" section.
-
"Accents", or the cheeks/nubs/horns of the bab can be any color in the base or pastel category and does NOT count towards the coat allowance. (accents cannot be white/off-white commonly!)
(WIP) If you need some help picking some colors, here are a few hues i've plucked from the appropriate color ranges!
The top portion counts as "Pastel", while the bottom two sections fall into "Base Coat".
Consider mixing and matching and adding a splash of white or cream to the mix! If you still need help with your colors feel free to send a message through deviantart or the discord!
Below are a few snapshots of some common coated babs.
⚠️ Woah! One of these snapshots has what looks to be a "rainbow" color palette. While babs are usually fully saturated and colorful, there is a restriction on true rainbow ribbon arcs and gradients. Or anything attempting to look iridescent! Solid rings of descending color are OK! True rainbows are reseved for Prismatic Mantibabs (TBA)
Pastel Coats
Notes:
-
Pastel babs may use any colors in the pastel section, but are still limited to 40% white usage!
-
Pale coated Mantibabs are susceptible to illness moreso than others, and there is said to be an illness only they can catch, but most tend to brush that off.

Pastel Halflings: (Mythical)
-
Mantibabs who are mostly pastel, but still retain some common base coat colors are considered Pastel Halflings, and categorize babs who don't fall quite into full pastel or common categories.
Some Mantibabs appear to have coats spun fully from pastel colors. These babs are said to be blessed by the Harbinger of Life; one of the two gods said to have created Crederia. Pastel coats are a "Blessed" trait.
Dull Coats
Dull coats are unusual, and are often regarded as a sign of impending death. They are seen as the downward spiral, the in-between before death is upon you. Which is just as well, since babs who obtain these coats have often come across the Miasma.
Notes:
-
Dull babs may use any colors in the right hand area, but are limited to 40% white/grey usage!

Umbra Coats
As a Mantibab steps closer to death, their coats turn dull, then take on a darker quality, losing their once vibrant colors and signifying the end of life. Umbra coats are usually reserved for "Raised" Mantibabs, or babs following certain "Paths" (WIP)
Notes:
-
Umbra babs may use any colors in the right hand red section, and may have roughly 25% or less saturation or pale tones to be considered full Umbra.
-
Some Mantibabs may revere dark coated babs with having been given a "second chance" by the earth, possibly being a reincarnation of someone who earned that honor. These babs tend to be surprisingly healthy, and rarely catch illness.

Umbra Halflings: (Mythical)
-
Mantibabs who use mostly common hues, have a mix of common and dull hues, but have some dark colors are considered Umbra Halflings, and categorize babs who don't fall quite into full Umbra or common categories.
-
Halflings also tend to be surprisingly healthy.
